The intrepid folks up at Yukon Brewing have for many years produced a variety of seasonal and one-off beer. Alas, they have always been reserved for their loyal local customers in the Territory. Which means those of us South of 60 could only read the press release and pine. Which is fair enough, I say. [...] So after a disturbingly warm season to date, Alberta was smacked with full frontal winter last week. Some complain, but I see it as just part of the price of living in the ungodly north. Bundle up and you are fine. My dogs didn’t even skip their daily walk (albeit we shortened it). I usually [...] After some unintended delays, the latest in Yukon Brewing‘s playful A.D.D. Series will be on Alberta store shelves in the (Saint) Nick of time for Xmas. The second release in the series is a Spiced Winter Ale, so it will go perfectly with your seasonal festivities. The A.D.D. series is a bit of an experiment [...] So in my absence there were a few new beer developments on the prairies. So, as I re-start things around here, let’s do a quick run-down on beer news. Alley Kat Brewing had three, count ‘em, three new releases last week. First out was the 2011 version of their perennial winter favourite, Old Deuteronomy. Second [...] Sometime in the next couple of weeks, bottles of a new Yukon seasonal series will be hitting store shelves in Alberta. the new line is a three-times a year run of one-off brews. The plan is to make them original and creative. They are calling it their Brewers’ A.D.D. Series (as in Attention Deficit Disorder). [...] Due to my life pre-occupations I have fallen a bit out of the loop about the goings-on with the prairie breweries outside Alberta. So I thought I would make up for it with a bit of a run-down on some of their latest releases and news, going west to east. Yukon Brewing are launching a [...] Yukon Brewing’s latest seasonal is out, and it is a Raspberry Wheat Ale called Razz-a-ma-Tazz. From what the folks at Yukon say, it is not your usual fruity wheat beer. First, they added some toasted wheat to give it more of a Wit character, and they allowed some of the raspberry to ferment, giving the [...] I owe the good folks at Yukon Brewing an apology. Normally I like to be the first guy to report new beer from prairie (and honourary prairie) brewers. However my Halifax sojourn has interfered with that mission. The Yukon guys did email me informing me of two new releases, but I simply didn’t get around [...] So this may be my most outrageous procrastination yet. Before Xmas our good friends at Yukon gave me a bottle of their very rare and now completely gone Solstice, their first distillation release. Last year they constructed a still that works in coordination with their mash tun. Their ultimate goal is to create single malt [...] Urban Diner on 109 Street has secured its second Yukon exclusive (the first was the Lead Dog on tap at its opening). This Friday at 4:00, the first of two kegs of Yukon’s latest seasonal, Porter, will be tapped. This is the first time the porter has left the safe confines of Whitehorse. They will [...] |
