Our Breckenridge friends are back at it

A long while back, I profiled some clever ads by Breckenridge Brewing out of Colorado (here is the original post on it). I wanted ot highlight for their originality, clever wit and pure mockery of the big boy marketing claims. I have always found craft beer advertising a bit too earnest and straightforward. There is something to be said about putting the product out front and honestly selling it for what it is. Lots of creativity goes into beer names and label designs, proving craft brewers can be very clever. I suspect that their small advertising budgets restrict how much energy they put into them.

Which is why I wanted at the time to point at Breckenridge – they showed that you can do clever on the cheap. It helps to have a front man who clearly has a gift for deadpan.

For no reason in particular, I wandered by their website yesterday (probably as a way of avoiding that looming deadline I have for work) to see if they had produced any more. And they had!! Thee are at least five new ads. They are not brand new, but they weren’t up the last time I checked a year or so ago. One offers a withering spoof of light beer. Another goes after Lime Beer.

But my two favourites move away from the easy targets. I embed them following the jump in the interests of main page’s loading speed. So you have to click one more time to see the videos!

This one plays with stereotype of the passionate craft brewer. I feel I recognize some people in the portrayal of a passionate brewer. Alas, I may recognize myself. Eek!!

But the best one has a degree of subtlety to it and takes aim at a ad campaign that actually has nothing to do with beer. I love the kicker line at the end:

You can find all the commercials, including the originals here. They offer a short respite from whatever daily routine through which you might find yourself slogging at the moment.
