A quick reminder to all Edmonton-area readers of the two upcoming cask nights in the next few days.

First up is the monthly Alley Kat cask evening at the Sugar Bowl – TONIGHT (Thursday September 23). This month returns to Full Moon as the base beer, dry-hopped with a generous dose of centennial hops. The first pull is at 5:00 and served until it is gone.

And don’t forget that next Tuesday (Sept. 28), Half Pint’s Dave Rudge is in Edmonton and will be serving up a cask-conditioned version of his Oktoberfest seasonal with some dry hopping for extra oomph, also at the Sugar Bowl at 5:00. Particularly fun about this event is Dave is bringing the beer in a traditional firkin, which will require the dramatic and traditional “tapping” – meaning the tap must be hammered into the cask with a mallet. Which means bring your plastic raincoat, if the hammering goes as it did for this woman in Regina a while back.

There are also rumours abounding these days that other cask events may pop up in town. If I can confirm anything, I will be sure to let you know.
