Just released today are two new products from the folks over at Amber’s Brewing in Edmonton, and both are of the curiousity piquing kind. The first is Amber’s Cinnamon and Cardamon Smooth, which – obviously – is flavoured with those two spices (yes, spelling geeks, the spice is spelled “cardamom”, but doesn’t Amber’s choice of spelling have a fabulous look on the label…). I honestly can’t tell you much more than that about it at the moment – as I have not yet tasted it, and Amber’s hasn’t yet released any product information. The name makes me think it uses their Amber’s Draft Smooth as the base, which is a light-drinking ale available on tap only.

The second product is Cowgrrl Cranberry and Lime Cooler. This is the second in their cooler line (following their popular Grog). They describe it thus: “The light pink of the natural lime and cranberry, the slightly tart flavour on the back of your tongue and the way it goes with almost any food.”

Both are intended, for now, as draught-only, and so will be available in the pubs and restaurants that carry Amber’s on tap. No one outside of the brewery has sampled these products yet, but the first Edmontonians to get to try them will be attendees at the Edmonton International Beer Fest (more on that event in a post later this week) this weekend at the Shaw Conference Centre, and at the beer tasting fundraiser for Edmonton-Strathcona MLA Rachel Notley on Friday night. Since I will be hosting the Notley tasting, I guess I will get my first crack at both that evening.
